Distracted

I'm supposed to be linking-up my article for She She Me right now. Instead I am reading people's blogs.

Also, I'm looking at a seed catalog. Yep, I'm turning Martha this year...if I can figure out how to plant a successful garden, that is. So far I've decided to plant some peppers. And probably some carrots.

I'm pretty sure Sky's nap won't last forever, but somehow it isn't enough motivation to work on links.

So...what else should I plant in my garden? Myr, go look at what is in your garden and tell me what to do.

A Life for Sale

I totally missed the boat! This guy auctioned his life away for a grand total of $399,300 at the end of June 2008. For said sum of money, the winner of the auction was awarded with the guy's life. His job, car, house + contents, a parachute, and yes--even his friends.

Although we can't try to buy his life and move to the suburbs of Perth, Australia (who wouldn't want to do this?), the website is still entertaining:

I'm thinking of selling my used tissues and Q-Tips.

Or maybe I could sell Mike. He's very useful, you know.

The Silver License

I am now a Nevadan.

I am a license-holding resident of "The Silver State," though my heart is in "The Golden State." I guess I'm okay with it because it's still a precious metal.

This logic doesn't apply to me ever living in "The Treasure State" (Montana) or "The Gem State" (Idaho).

So anyway, I'm a Nevadan. And it only took 8 months.

Oops...

I have screwed up my blog template. I thought, "Maybe I'll just make my own template instead of use one made by someone who knows what they are doing!"

I might be able to fix it. I'm going to see what I can do.

Either way, Mike will be home in a couple of hours.

Cutting Flowers

I really love flowers. The only problem is, sometimes I have a problem cutting them from their plant.

It feels like this:

Valentine's Jackets and Chains

Though I did take my camera along for our trip to CA this past weekend, I took very few pictures. If only my camera could be added as an appendage I might remember to use it once in a while. I'm pretty sure science is getting close to figuring this one out. It's right up there in importance with curing flatulence.

Anyway, here are a couple of shots to remember the trip:

The first one is Sky in her new Valentine's Day jacket from Morgan (totally rockin')...

...and the second is of Mike manning it up and installing chains on the car for the drive through Tahoe.

Tags

My friend Brittany loaned us an activity gym for Skylar to play with. Thanks Britt!

Naturally, the first thing she does is flip onto her tummy.
With all the bells and whistles this thing has (dangling toys, bright colors, music), I was sure Sky would be really excited about it. As it turns out, she really does like it. In fact, her very favorite part about the whole gym are the tags!

Go figure. I think I'll just wrangle up a pile of tags and let 'er go at it for a while.

She's probably teaching herself to read. I mean, she is in the 100th percentile for intellect...

Jumper Troubles

My parents bought Sky a jumper for Christmas because she really likes to be upright and, well, my arms are tired.

This was a brilliant plan, the jumper. Unfortunately, we have 9' doorways in our house and the jumper was made for 7-8' doorways. So we improvised.

This seems to be working out all right.

Something Themes Wrong Here...

I have been waiting and waiting for Gmail to have more themes available. I mean, I'm a fan of Ninja, but I would love a little more variety here.

Apparently there are loads of themes available for your Google homepage, but nothing new for Gmail. Since I downloaded Google Chrome, I don't have a Google homepage so I can't really take advantage of those themes. Not that I wanted a Celine Dion themed Google homepage, but I'm really diggin' this guy. It seems weird for Google to replace their own iGoogle with an automatic browser homepage though, doesn't it?

I'm so impatient when there's no way for me to work around an issue. I'll keep enjoying my ninjas for now. I'm sure Gmail will show me the magic soon enough.

Sock It To Me!

A couple of days ago, this kept happening:

So I asked Mike to put some different socks on Sky. I should have been more specific, because he brought her back like this:

Intellect: 100%

Today was Skylar's 4-month well-baby checkup. I know! That's crazy...

Here's a picture of 4-month-old Sky:
I am sick, so Mike took some time off work to take Sky to her checkup. Thanks, Mikey!

Since I usually take her to the doctor, I required a full report of the checkup from Mike. He's becoming a professional at giving reports, so here's what happened:

  • Sky was weighed and measured! She now weighs in at 14lbs, 6oz. That places her in the 75th percentile for weight. I was guessing 14.5lbs, so I wasn't too far off.
  • Before you think "that's one chunky baby" (which I know you're thinking), she measured 25 1/4 inches. She is in the 90th percentile for height. (Side note: I am in the 10th percentile for height, so together we make 100%. Wicka wicka woot!)
  • Her head is the same percentile as it's always been: 50%. She has a normal sized head for a 4-month old.
  • We can now start her on rice cereal so she can learn to eat from a spoon. I think she will excel at this skill. She has a very active mouth. (Also, I know what's up, because last night I bought rice cereal and spoons. I guess I can see the future.)
Mike also reported to me that Skylar is very smart. She is in the 100th percentile for intellect.

They don't really measure that, but a mother knows these things.
Here's what Sky had to say about that comment:
Dr. Zucker was surprised to see that she is already showing separation anxiety. Apparently she cried when he held her, but stopped when he gave her back to Mike. Dr. Zucker said babies don't usually care who holds them until around 6 months. This is what Mike based his reasoning on.

Along with the normal measuring and weighing business, Sky had her second round of immunizations. She has three Garfield bandaids on her chubby little thighs and couldn't care less.

She's too happy to be bothered by shots.

Happy Birthday, Myr!!

It's Myriah's birthday! Wahoo!

I almost always feel this image is the best way to remember Myriah:
Seeing as it's an old picture, I feel compelled to follow with a more recent one. Unfortunately, the most recent pictures I have of us together are...horrible. Really. They're that bad.

I want to keep this a happy birthday for you, Myr, so we'll stick with remembering that time you pushed Liz into the tub because she wouldn't stop talking.  May your next 25 years be as easy as the first, if not easier, since you're already educated and whatnot.

Happy Birthday, you rock star, you!!!!!!

Yep. Rock star.

Strawberry Preserves

I made the mistake of buying Smucker's Strawberry Preserves. It was a great deal at Costco.

I saw this and thought, "jam." Isn't that what you think of when you see it?

The whole point of my buying jam over jelly was for the spreadability inherent in the very idea of jam.

It starts out well enough. I'm spreading the jam and then WHAM! A preserved strawberry, all lumpy and unspreadable.

The only chunks I want in my PB&J are the peanut chunks from my extra chunky PB (also a great deal at Costco, but one I was thrilled to find chunks in). I don't even know what to think when I bite into a preserved strawberry. My first thought is, "Spit it out! It's unnatural!"

I guess I'll just feed all those preserves to Mike...
