"Mommy Boy Baby"

Skylar just told me the baby is a boy. That takes a load off my mind, because I sure have been wondering about it a lot!

Talky-Talkerton

While we were in Utah last week, Skylar decided to start talking A LOT.

To quote my mom, "During the whole car ride home I don't think there was even a 5-minute section of time where she didn't talk."

Which means she talked quite a bit, seeing as it's a 9-hour ride and she didn't sleep at all.

Right now she is standing next to me saying, "Hey, Mommy. Hey, Mommy! Hey, Mommy!"
Me: "What's up, Sky?"
Sky: "It's broken!" (only she says "ee bo-ken." "Ee" replaces words like "it" and "they" and "in")
Me: "What's broken?"
Sky: "It's not broken." ("ee not bo-ken")

20 seconds later...

Sky: "Hey, Mommy!"
Me: "Yeah?"
Sky: "Youp! Sky youp ee bag!" (youp sounds like soap with a "y." Also, she pronounces her name "Die" which gets me a lot of weird looks in public)

Now she wants to put a bunch of Bath and Body Works soaps in a yellow bag so haul around the house. I gave her 2, which evidently is not enough because she is now standing next to me crying, saying, "Oh, no!" and asking for more youp for her bag.

It is amazing how she has suddenly decided to delve into sentences when before she was just using a couple of words at a time to communicate. Now she says things like, "Sky hop ee car!" while she plays in her Little Tikes car, or "Sky ready home" when she's done shopping. Or "Sky play Mia's house!" which she has been saying all day.

Guess it's time for a play date with Mia!

I'm sorry you lost your brain

It kills me a little every time someone updates their Facebook status with a really, horribly stupid comment. It's one thing to say it out loud to a roomful of people where it will be quickly forgotten or laughed off, but to post brainless comments on your Facebook page for hundreds of people to read...it just kills me a little.

Especially because it's always the same 2 people with the idiotic posts.

Too bad one is a teacher and the other is in the medical field. I feel like WAY too many lives are being wrongly influenced.

5 Years!

Happy 5th Anniversary to us!!!

When you're growing up, people always tell you things like "time flies" or "they grow up too fast." Now I know why! Time seriously flies; especially when you're having fun.

Here are some highlights from the past 5 years:

  • The obvious first: we were married! Absolutely our best decision ever. Oh, Oahu. Someday we'll make our way back.
  • Owned our first home in Springville, Utah. Finished the basement and never had a chance to use it before we...
  • Graduated from BYU! Those were great times!
  • I had a lot of weird jobs. Mike had a lot of normal ones.
  • Moved away to Reno, and not to Houston. I think that was one of our better decisions because it has given us the opportunity to visit our families often.
  • Had our first daughter, Sky! She is the coolest kid in the world and has just mastered the art of jumping with both feet. We are so lucky to have her! It is hard to believe she'll be two in a couple of months. Talk about flying time, sheesh!
  • Bought our second home in Reno, which we completely love. We are constantly finding projects to do; most involve painting, but apparently we are moving into the minor construction arena. We'll miss this house whenever we up and move on with our lives.
  • Mikey started his career and is moving up the ranks. I can't keep this guy from finding work. I never thought I'd have to tell my husband to stop finding jobs, but come on, man! :)
  • Expecting our second kidlet in February!
I think that covers the most exciting parts of the past 5 years. I'd post some pictures, but our most recent project in the office has my desktop out of commission for a few more days.

We've had great times! We've also had busy times, stressful times and some sad losses, but mostly the past five years have been full of excellent memories. I'm so lucky to have Mike as a husband and can't wait for what our future brings!

Mike says the future brings a new car. I mean, that is pretty cool, but I'm thinking there are even better things ahead. I love you, Mikey James!

Again with the painting!

We had a very busy week last week. First, Gabrielle visited. We took Sky to the park, had fun hanging out at home and Sky even got to play with Grandma while Mike and I went to see Inception (which we loved). Woohoo!

Then after Gabrielle left, Nick and Josh caught a ride with Mike's coworker, Harold, from the Bay Area to Reno. Convenient, right? We went bowling and watched movies and, naturally, there was a lot of Xbox business happening all week. The boys stayed all week until my mom came to pick them up. Grammy got here Wednesday night and took NickJosh away Friday morning.

Sky is obsessed with Nick and Josh, I think. She tried to play video games with them. I took pictures. In fact, I took at least 4 pictures during the week and I am planning to post them as soon as my computer is accessible again. (I know, that sucker is always out of commission!)

So here's the deal. Nick and Josh helped Mike paint our bedroom because they are awesome and the best GHF brothers ever! The paint we chose is not pregnancy friendly, which is why Mike recruited help.  So anyway, our room is now painted. Yay!

After everyone left Friday, Mike and I did nothing. Then we went to dinner. Then we woke up Saturday morning, clearly possessed, and decided to paint the office. Yes, more painting. But not just painting! Paneling! Ay ay ay. What is wrong with us? Why do we create these projects? Sigh...the office is not finished yet, but we're hoping to get 'er done this week. I painted the office and Mike painted all the molding/chair rails/panels. I think he'll start cutting tonight and we'll finish the room up during the week.

I'm tired. I'm not even going to proof read this post before I publish it. I think I'll go read some Hunger Games so I can move on to Catching Fire and be ready to read Mockingjay when it comes out in two weeks! YEAH!!!
