Salvaged

Yesterday Mike and I embarked on a new mission: The Declutterization of the Comfoltey House.

We decided to start with our closet, mostly because it is smaller than an entire room and we figured it wouldn't take all day. We came out with a whole heap of clothes to donate to Goodwill, as well as a pile of other random don't-needs.

At one point, the Carla in me became very bold and just started chucking things in the trash. That was the point at which I found my box of ticket stubs. Yes. Basically every movie I've seen since I was 12, plus concerts stubs and even an old dance card.

I opened the box and dumped the contents in the trash. Woohoo! I said, "I did it! I threw away all of my ticket stubs! Take that, box!" (complete with little victory jig and rude gesture toward aforementioned garbage box).

But jump back about 37 seconds to the part where I mistakenly pointed out a ticket stub from a John Mayer concert Mike took me to when we were first dating.

Mike gave me this look. I knew what the look meant. So I walked away and started pulling something out from under the bed.

Assuming sufficient time had passed, I went back to the garbage box where I was attacked by Mike's hoarding ways.

Mike (staring at the box): "Hmmm...."
Me: "What?"
Mike: "That's a lot of memories."
Me: "Or paper."
Mike: "It's a tiny little box."
Me: "Are you trying to talk me into keeping them?"
Mike: "I'm just saying, it's a tiny box..."
Me: "I already threw them away."
Mike: "But they are on the top, you could still get them out."

Mike proceeded to harass me for the next hour or so, randomly spouting off things like, "Did you think about those stubs any more?" and "It's just a tiny box. It doesn't take up space." He eventually dropped all subtlety and just asked me, "Did you pull those stubs out of the trash yet?" But I hadn't, so I said, "Nope."

The next thing I knew, there I was salvaging my damn ticket stubs from the trash box.

Good thing it's such a tiny box.

PI-WO!!!

Yesterday I was sitting on the floor in the family room trying to figure out how to remove gel nails. (A friend of mine is getting her nail license and needed to practice applying gels, so she practiced on my toenails. They looked fab, but it's been 6 weeks and they need to go.)

Sky was watching TV and coloring. All of a sudden:

Sky: "Oh no! Oh no!!!"
Me: "What's up, Sky?" (staring at my toes, which may or may not have been wrapped in tin foil to hold acetone-soaked cotton balls on top of each nail...I read it online...)
Sky: "Mommy, that pi-wo is going to get my pi-wo!"
Me: "What?" (because...what? I'm sure you're wondering the same thing)
Sky: "THAT PI-WO IS GOING TO GET MY PI-WO!!!"
Me: "Spider?"
Sky: "Yes! That one!"

I look and Sky is pointing to the kitchen floor, where, for whatever reason, a large plastic spider that I didn't even know we owned was sitting on the tile. And sure enough, heading toward that plastic spider is a very real, very large, very hairy spider. I almost dry-heaved. It really was huge.

Clearly it had to die. I grabbed the paper towel I had under my foot (you know, in case some acetone escaped the tin foil wrappings), jumped up and hopped on one foot until I found one of Mike's shoes. Then I threw the paper towel on top of the spider and...

Sky: "Aww. Poor pi-wo. He was playing on the tile by my pi-wo and Mommy SMASHED HIM WITH DADDY'S SHOE!!!!!!!"
Me: "Um. Yes. He shouldn't have come into the house. Where did that huge spider come from anyway?!"
Sky: "Outside."

I would have taken a picture if the spider didn't look like it could eat my children. So now you can create a picture in your mind.

Oh, if you're wondering, I still haven't been able to get the gels off my toenails. I think I need an hour to sit and soak them in nail polish remover. How will that not make my toes fall off?

Oh, Joy! Oh, Rapture!

Happy Rapture!

My left shoulder is all messed up. It was the only part of me that was righteous enough to be lifted up into Heaven. Now it's probably dislocated from all the effort of trying to float away from the much heavier whole it is connected to.

Sigh. We're still here. Are you? Aside from my left arm, I guess none of us were righteous enough. I hear they're going to try again in another 2000 years. I'm glad I didn't blow all my money yesterday!

We Went Somewhere!

Mike and I took the girls to U-Swirl for frozen yogurt last night. Sky got her own cup to fill with whatever she wanted. She would have been happy with all toppings and no yogurt, and was particularly taken with the eggs...which we think were yogurt-covered raisins.

Anyway, after we were there for about 15 minutes I told Sky to eat her yogurt because we needed to go home and get ready for bed. She said, "Oh. I don't want to leave."

She did come home with us, though, and when drove into the garage I said, "That was fun, huh Sky?"

Sky: "Yeah. We went somewhere!"

I guess the hermit lifestyle just isn't for everyone.

Smith's Haul

I went to Smith's on Tuesday and I came home with all of this:

For a grand total of $61.26

Yes, I saved $119.14.

That doesn't sound too impressive at first. But please note: more than $20 of that total was spent on 2 gallons of milk, one quart of buttermilk, a bunch of grapes, 4 bananas, 4 apples and one lemon. The rest was purchased for under $40!

The manager asked to look at my receipt. She said, "Pretty dang good!" I was worried all the employees would be annoyed with me, but I went at 9pm with no kids hoping to be less annoying with my coupons and I guess it worked. They were all very nice to me!

I know I'm not exactly royalty, but royalty looks pretty good on me.

Just Some Cute Pictures

As I uploaded these, I realized the kids are facing the same direction in all three photos. How do you feel about that? Is your balance thrown off for the whole weekend now? Feel free to blame me.

4 Months Old!

I wrote this post yesterday afternoon. Not this post, but a post, and I was so proud of myself for getting it done on the actual day Harper turned 4 months old. Because you know I've taken my sweet time lately...

When I pushed the "publish" button, I got a notice saying Blogger was down. It was down until about an hour ago. The post I wrote is nowhere to be found! So here's a newbie.

That seahorse is looking mighty tiny these days, eh?

Wearing her bunny hat from Auntie Hka! (The tag says 0-3mos, but it's just now fitting and since the weather is warming up I'm making her wear as much as she can before it's hot out!)

Man, she's 4 months old. That was fast! Probably because the past three months are a blur of crying (her, not me) and pacing (me, not her). It was a very slow three months, but somehow so slow it all meshed together to be remembered as a fast three months. And I don't even care about how that sentence makes no sense. This is the second time I've had to write the same post--deal with it!

Oh yeah, for journaling purposes: Harper is laughing and smiling all day. She's obsessed with me. I'm not just saying that--this kid loves me! Just ask Mike. She also loves the dogwood paintings Leisa did for our family room. She can happily stare at those for long periods of time.

Harper doesn't roll over yet, which means we can still let her lay on the ottoman. I love that massive ottoman. She is such a sweet little baby and Sky loves her like crazy. As I said to Mike, I knew there was a smiling happy baby in there hiding behind bad gas! Happy 4 months, Harp!

The Oatmeal

Have you ever visited The Oatmeal?

This post [10 Words You Need to Stop Misspelling] is hilarious.

And effective.

Because nothing gets a point across like a solid kick to the hemmies.

Enjoy! (Thanks Kelli & Brie!)

11.25

That is how long Harper slept last night. 11.25 hours.

She's averaging 9 hours these days, but last night! Awesome.

My Haul, 5/1-5/7

I decided to take a picture of my couponing haul from this week. I only made it to CVS and Walgreens, though I did send Mike with a little envelope of coupons to use at Walmart later today so he can stock up on some smoothies for his newly adopted high-calorie diet.

Anyway, let's just focus on what I've accumulated thus far.

Here we have a pile of stuff with a retail value of $220.75:

I started to type everything out, but I don't have time to type it all. Almost everything here cost less than $1, but some items (like the $8 Tylenol Precise patches) were completely free! You can click on the picture to get a better look if you feel so inclined. :)

I spent a total of:
$35.79

...I saved...drumroll...
$184.96

A whopping 83.7% savings!

Not bad, eh? And that's a wrap.

Wrap Baby

Sky calls swaddling "wrap baby."

And this is what Mike looks like when Sky wraps baby.
